okay everyone so I'm asking for help again, my specs to my truck- 1985 ford f350 6.9 diesel 4 speed with/out tilt steering. i need help converting my truck to tilt steering, and i was wondering if a whole tilt steering column from a 1986 f150 auto trans will fit, as in will the turn signal switch harness fit onto my f350 harness? i wouldn't mind the shifter on there. as long as i have a key that functions and tilt steering. thanks in advanced.
That column will work. You will have to deal with the shifter a little more than you think. You can knock the roll pin out and take the chrome part off, but you will have to go out under the hood after you install it, and tie the little lever up that used to go to the auto shifter linkage. If you let gravity have its way and the lever drops down, the column thinks the truck is in gear and will not let the keyswitch turn completely off to get the key out. The column you have now has this feature, that is what the little white button is for that you have to push to turn the key all the way back.
You could probably take it apart and modify this if you wanted, but steering columns are fairly complex fiddly things to work on, so think about it before you tear into it too much. All the trucks I have ever had did have the tilt column, but I never use it. I tilt it so I can see the gauges/speedo and then I never move it again, but that is just me.
Thanks for the reply, i have it all swapped in. i was just kinda worried about the turn signals maybe not working. my old column is all jacked up thats why it needed replacing.
