there are SEVERAL types of filter clamps used over the years.. The INTERNAL alligator teeth that need a special tool to remove are the hard ones...... the pink slip in units mentioned above a simple to remove and normally NOT broken , needing replace. ....... fifty150 , look at your own photos on the back side of the filter ... pink clamp.
Yuuup. Definitely red. A slightly different design than the pink or the blue.
But the real problem is the front. The easy disconnect, which nobody finds easy to disconnect. The worry is that you just can't get it off, and you have to cut it off. Then you will need more than a pink plastic clip if you have to cut off the front part.
Do you have a pic of your truck, with the fuel lines cut, and pink repair splices taking their place? It would really help us to visualize the procedure.
These are just the clips/tabs that insert into the end that has the broken red clip in your first picture. I believe the original one on my truck was a blue clip.
They are so you keep that connector and just replace the clip or retainer portion of the connector.
The pink, red and blue connectors are NOT the problem.. Depending on design, you either push them in or pull them out and pop off the gas line. No reason to break them off.......... the ORIGINAL COMPLAINT was the steel fitting on the OTHER SIDE that has the alligator teeth inside... Those are the PROBLEM couplings and need special tools with varying degrees of success.
There is NO PROBLEM with the pink / red / blue connectors unless you break It off instead of pushing it in.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, so I just replaced the original fuel filter on my 2004 F150 with >210k miles on it, this is what came out of the tank side:
That filter has had well over 10,000 gallons of fuel pumped through it. Part number for my 04 according to Ford is Motorcraft FG-1114.
The tip I have for removing the front high pressure quick connect is: pull the connector away from the filter so the clips are all the way against the barb on the filter, then insert the disconnect tool (the smallest one that you can get around the filter's tube, I have the second tool Brian shows in the FordTechMakuloco video above) and push it as far into the connector as you can, then push the connector back toward the filter (this was the step that made these easier to remove for me once i figured it out) and then finally pull the connector off. Once you get the process down, and you have the right size tool, it only takes a few seconds to remove them.
