Brake lights, directionals work fine with key on accessory, but sometimes do not work once engine is turned over and running. Seems to happen more often if engine is cold. Usually remedied by turning truck on and off once or twice...There has been a alternator ,generator conversion, but that was sometime ago. Appreciate any ideas!

My suspicion is a bad ignition switch. You could test the power feed to the lights from the ingnition in the “run” position with a 12v test light or meter to find out for sure.

X2, likely. Maybe something with the fuse box, like corroded contact or such. My 62 has the fuse block as part of the headlight switch, but I’m not sure if they changed that by 63. I hate that configuration, and when I put in new wiring, that will change.

For sure on my '64, not sure about your '63, but the turn signal and brake wiring goes through the steering column and there could be an open wire (broken) in there.
