You might be able to get away with it if there is nothing else of that wire.
Then just set it up as a temp test and see what happens.
What wire are you thinking about? The return signal wire should not really be an issue.
The Vref side could be if it is feeding other sensors on that leg. The work around for that
would be to make a tap so that you can run one wire to the sensor and the rest still get
power for the other sensors.

Yours might be something else. Because I am getting readings albeit not what it should but always a reading.
Its too cold here in Ontario to do anything under the hood outside. So I'll what for some warmer temps.
Ya, a ford mechanic said it was not uncommon to have a bad sensor but I’ve also read a bit about wire shaffing being common... my sensor decided to start working again, for how long who knows.
