hello everyone, I'm trying to keep my old ford alive. starts up cold, idles good. But when warmed up, it misses and cuts out badly. Had a local mechanic check it out. his guess was map sensor. when sensor disconnected, engine did improve a lot. he replace the sensor. no help. he is not sure what to do. "could be computer" he said. so if anyone else has had this problem, your advice would be appreciated
thanks,brucelee58

So he didn’t try to check for active or stored fault codes? That is where to start troubleshooting.
the mechanic didn't go into detail other then checking other sensors, I guess I should try a more educated tech. does a 1990 model f150 4.9l display codes?
Should be under a cover
As already mentioned the diagnostic connector is on a bracket aft of the air box. When you do the test it is very important to list the codes how they appeared ie active or stored.
Ok, I did a test using the check engine light flashes with those coonetors, couldn’t really determine anything, maybe the code checker will be better, thanks,Conan

When you say the engine light flashes, are you saying that you're doing the test by jumping the connections with a paper clip?
have you ever changed the ignition coil? They're bad about starting to break down when warm if they're dying. and they'll mimic fuel delivery issue sometimes.
Hey BS51993, I have done the jumper test and counted check engine light flashes, but couldn't really determine what to do. no Odisvan, I have not changed the coil. but why would disconnecting MAP sensor improve the performance?
When a sensor fails, like unplugging it, the EEC goes into FMEM/LOS mode and provides a normal operating parameter in place of the failed sensor, this allows the engine to run fairly normal. This event should have produced a Code and CE light. Designed to get you home.
