I just purchased a 2017 26' travel trailer. But there is no Electronic Break controller module installed, in my 2017 Ford Expedition and at the hitch there is only a 4 pin oblong connector. The travel trailer has a round 7pin connector. I have been going back and forth with local FORD parts department, one says just need controller and a 4 pin to 7 PIN round connector adapter . Another ford dealership parts dept says I need the controller, WIRE harness and round 7 PIN RECEPTACLE INSTALLED. ANY NONE CAN TELL THE THEY WAY TO GO?

you need the harness that will plug into the existing harness. IT will come with the proper 7 pin. Using an adapter would result in a wiring mess with a TBC.

Get the TBC, plug it in and then have the service department activate using IDS.

 

They did install a harness and the 7pin plug and module, but they zip tied the round connector to the car.. on the other side of the 4 pin connector -- shouldn't thy be on the same time?

 

your hitch probably was not made to accept a 7 pin and a 4 pin connector. Search the internet and you may find one. etrailer.com is a good source to start at.

 

That also means your hitch is the light duty hitch. You better verify what the rating is before you tow. The light duty hitch was a 5k. Also means you do not have the auxiliary transmission cooler either.
