Upfitter electrical question

Is it possible/practical to run aftermarket amplifier/sub through an upfitter switch?

Thanks,

You could use it to energize a relay but thats about it. You would burn that switch up pretty quick with that type of current load.

Main power yes, signal for power from the head unit and sound signal still separate though. Just remember, 5 and 6 can always be on even if ignition off, this will kill batteries if they are set that way and truck is off if its always supplying power. 1-4 will be sufficient and only be on if main accessory full power or Engine running. You could just leave the switch on. Just depends on the amp and the number of connections required.

Thanks for the quick response, I have no desire to listen to radio with truck off but I would rather it be on the 40 amp switches if I did do it.

Switches 5- 6 are the 40 amp. they can be set as "always on" or set for when the switch on and power only when truck running. Depends on the trim level you have. I would not do full accessory power for long either. 40 amp circuit should be 100% 8 gauge wire(or better). Depends on what the actual draw is, I doubt it would be more than 30 amps in most cases.

I think I'll leave the "always on" tab alone then. I wanted a sure cut off for the amp, and to also keep wires away from the batteries. It just looks tacky IMO.
I agree though, you would need serious watts to push 30 amps, I just don't want to melt anything as Nick suggested.

I also have the 377 amp alternators
