I have a 96 Ford Explorer and i am installing an after market amp, now i know that i need A Line Output Converter to hook up to the amp, but does anyone know where to hook the 12v auto turn-on lead to?
You can hook it up to the ignition switch, but any 12V power source will work. My suggestion is to get an aftermarket deck, the sound quality will be much better, you won't need a LOC converter, and there's a remote turn on it already.
there should be a wire out of the head to activate a power antenna.the possible problem with that is some heads only power the antenna lead when the radio is on, and not if the head is in CD mode.I'm not sure if the stock head has a lead that is powered whenever the head is on.If you power the amp turn on lead from an ACC power, you'd prolly get annoying noise when the head is off. you could put a switch on the dash or somewhere to turn the amp on and off manually.I'm a much bigger fan of aftermarket decks than stock, they are just easier to work with.
what kind of wiring would that involve? and i was also thinking, instead of wiring in a L.O.C., would it be possible for me to to pull the wires from the 8" sub that is already in there and hook it up to the amp?
you'd run a wire from an ACC source, to a switch, and then to the amp turn on lead.almost any switch will work, you can go plain or fancy or lighted even
I believe the existing sub has speaker level inputs, I could be wrong.if your amp has speaker level inputs, you could go into those, or you could place the LOC near the amp, if thats easier for you.what amp are you running?
so i took your guy's advice and bout a new deck for my car to save the hassel of the L.O.C. but just my luck, the deck i bout was diffective, i could hit the display button to see the time, but when i pushed the power button, nothing happened. i hate this crap...
Are you sure you have the ignition and constant + wires hooked up, because if you only had the constant, it could be that. What kind of deck is it, and where did you get it?
