I have a 1991 f150 with a 5.0 motor with ac. My question is can I bypass the power steering pump and if so how well will it steer and cant I just disconnect it because as lame as it sounds I cant afford a new belt right now
I’m confused. How are you going to bypass the power steering without buying a new (shorter) belt? Why not just buy the belt you need to run everything?
I was just wondering if I drain the system of power steering fluid and disconnected the lines if it would still spin freely or or what would happen I just didn't know sorry if I sound dumb
You would have to determine how to route the new shorter belt. The pump and lines do not need to be drained.
approx $20 for a belt or $30 for a pump. I still don’t understand what your trying to accomplish. You will either be buying a belt or a pump (if that is why you want to bypass it)
it would just be a temporary things for a couple days maybe if I were to bypass it until I can make enough money to get a pump for a belt I know they're cheap I just don't have any money right now
The system is not manual and is not set up like manual steering so it will be difficult to steer. No belt, no power steer = hard to steer. Belt , no fluid, = hard to steer and burned up/seized pump.
Leave the fluid in and hoses hooked up., bum a ride or use it as little as possible till you get a new belt put on.
....My question is can I bypass the power steering pump...

We still do do not know what is wrong with the pump. Is it leaking, whining or not providing pressure?
Park the truck and save up for the parts your not doing yourself any favors by bypassing anything, and from a dead stop the steering will be heavy and you risk of getting into an accident. That's why these trucks have power steering .
Un safe todrive without power steering. Pump needs fluid for lube if it is to be rotated. You are just risking more repairs by driving it. the pump is probably running hot, cooking lines and sending saw dust into the rest of the system causing at minimum a lot of time and oil flushing the system out, if not a new box and lines. Why would you do that, especially if you can't afford the issue now, what makes you think you will be able to afford more problemms later?
okay so I replaced the power steering pump.....but now the belts not lining up right. It goes around the cam pulley then to alt. Pulley but it comes off just a ****hair misaligned. ...is the steering pump pullwy not on all the way....thats all I can think of

Most likely that is probably the case. I assume you had to use the special tool to remove the pulley from the old pump and install the pulley on the new pump? Or did someone else do the work?

If the belt is now not aligned then the pulley is not fully installed.
It does not go around the cam pulley. There is no pulley for the camshaft driven by the serpentine belt. Did you mean the water pump?
