Is Buying a used 5th wheel hitch ok?

Im new to 5th wheels. Have had bumper pulls for decades and now wanna move to a 5th wheel. Was wondering if used was fine, I've bought used excellent condition weight distro hitches for bumper pulls and am wondering about doing the same for a 5th wheel.
Local guy has a Curt Q16 for sale. It's in excellent shape and a year old.
I'd be putting it on my 2019 F250 CCSB to haul my finances 5th Wheel.

As long as it's in good condition and that's the type hitch you want, go for it. My first hitch was used, then as I traded trucks, I'd install it in the newer truck, so it could be considered as a used hitch four times.
It's still working well for me.

I'm thinking it has to be a bit more than a year old. The Q16 is now called the A16. My hitch, which is over a year old is the A25 (used to be Q25).
Still, a decent hitch, but I'd offer a slightly lower price for an obviously older unit.
Other questions I'd have are:
How is it mounted to the truck? Assuming above the bed rails, does it use generic 'L' shaped brackets to bolt to the frame, or does it use model specific frame rails?
You're going to want to print out the installation/owners manual and ensure all parts are present. There are metal slugs that are shaped to fit between the frame mounted brackets and the bed of the truck (inside those raised ridges in the bed), as well as five bolts with lock nuts and washers to attach the bed rails to the frame rails and bed.
Take a look at the locking jaws. There should be two curved sections that close around the kingpin and lock in place to give 360 degree support. The even older E16 just has a sliding bar that locks the kingpin in place. Not nearly as nice as the newer models.
As far as capacity goes, the Q16 will easily handle a 10k camper.

Nothing wrong with a used one. I see them on Clist all the time for around 2-250. Alot of times they are practically new. Just make sure it works smooth and doesn't show any signs of being stressed like crackling paint or a binding jaw.

A quick look at the Curt web site shows that they are currently manufacturing the "Q" and "A" series fifth wheel hitches. Q16 uses a spherical axial bearing while the A16 uses a fully articulating torsion head, the locking handles operates differently, and the jaws are different (same differences for the Q25 and A25).

77mmbass - I would say go for it, I picked up a used Q20 a few months back for a killer price. The guy I bought if from bought it earlier this year and only used it three times before he traded in his 5er for a diesel pusher, I got it for less than a third of what the guy paid for it.

Locally used hitches are so plentiful that when I traded in my last TV I left it installed; I had already moved it once, wasn't doing that again.

It was rail mounted and my new TV had the puck system.

Yes with these things piece of mind does have a price tag attached to it. If you buy new you likely won`t have any " what was that" moments.

Absolutely buy it! Curt makes a great product and it's way more than adequate for the trailer you have.
