I have the new 2004 ford F150 ( New style body) 4x4, extended cab pickup
and I'm told I need a special hitch or adapter kit. Is this the case?
anyone with any info please contact me. I bought this truck equipted with a towing packag and now it seems I might have trouble installing a 5th wheel hitch, or have other problems due to the new style body is this the case?
Any other owner having any problems
thanks for your help and suggestions
Do you have the SuperCrew? If so, your bed is too short even for a slider hitch. If you have something longer than the 5.5" bed then you can get a slider hitch. Once concern will be bed rail clearance. The new F150s have taller bed rails and clearance might be a problem. I don't think they considered fifth wheel hitches with the new F150 because 99.999% of fifth wheel trailers are too heavy for a 1/2 ton truck.
You're not supposed to drill holes in the hydro-formed frame. The hitch manufacturers will have a kit to install their hitch in your truck... if not available now, you can bet it will be soon.

Hi Les and welcome to FTE
I've been told that the problem with putting a hitch on your truck is that the frame is fully boxed. The hitch has to be clamped to the frame or it needs inserts to put bolts through.
If you take a look at http://www.hitchesonline.com/ you might find some more info.
