we have a 1997 f250 light duty w/ 5.4 triton 4x4. we have replaced the ignition box 4 times. at first it works great and then w/in a week or 2 the key doesn't work. when you turn the key no sound, nothing, then if you let up on the key, release it very slowly it will catch and take off. this last for about a week then that doesn't work either. then we go get another ignition box and it is the same all over again. can someone tell me what's going on. it is a automatic.
The key lock assembly has a rod that runs down the steering column to operate the ignition switch.
After the second switch that does not work, find out why the rod is not operating the switch fully.

My 86 Ford did the same thing, its a switch at the base of your steering column that the Rod engages with.
the video jus shows how to replace the ignition box, and the next video shows a relay gone bad, if the relay is bad why does it work great when you first replace the box and then over time it starts acting up?

Did you figure it out after all? I know this thread is years old but my 01 F150 Crew Cab has been doing exactly this. On my 6th ignition switch now!!
