hey guys, got a 92 f150 with the 5.0l
this problem just started last night.
my mom tryed to take it to town but she came back and said the voltage gauge was danceing and it died on it, she said she let it set for a few secs and it started back up. so she brought it back,
just now me and my dad took it down the road and about 2 miles in the voltage gauge started danceing going from 0 to high really fast, and on the way back it die, lights and every thing was working but the engine died, headlights were bright. so we turn everything off and waited couple seconds and she started right back up, there is no codes the check engine light did flash couple times, but there no codes. about the alternator or voltage,
my question is what could this be? voltage reg seems to be it, but i dont know, the alternator is couple years old.
Sounds like the voltage regulator that is on the back of the alternator. You can take it in some places to have it tested, or just replace alternator. Before you do either, would be good exercise to verify proper/clean connection to battery terminals, grounds, and plugs to alternator.
ok, so we have a new alternator and im waiting on parts to put the water pump back in, i had to move the truck, so when i went to move it, it was only running on the battery, it would't start it would try but would't fire, i had to pump the gas to get it to catch,
would runing on a old battery cause for a hard start? and run bad? ( running rough)

Before you start your truck with the new alternator make sure all of your battery and alternator connections are fresh and clean. Your battery has to be fully charged too so put it on a charger overnight.
Yes a low battery can make a vehicle hard to start and run like crap when it does start.
