Don't know what you paid, but you could buy a Felpro gasket at the local parts house for probably less than you paid Ford. I use a thin film of sealer on both sides

$20 shipped to my door from eBay. I don't like the hassle of going the local parts store where the person behind the counter has a hard time getting their face off their Instagram account. It's a once every 10-year repair.
Philly driver, I found the same information in my Haynes and Ford manuals. I need to find out if I have the Ford 8.8, 9.75, or the Dana 60, 70 Axles. I noticed that I have an oil leak around the drive shaft as well. I suspect that the fluid may all be coming from the driveshaft/pinion seal.

Look if you have a tag in your differential, if not give a call to a Ford dealer they should be able to identify it for you just with your VIN number.

At the time that I bought the gasket I was not aware of the pinion seal until I watched a few YouTube Videos. There is fluid oozing out of the bolts. I have never worked on a differential. First time for everything. That’s why I posted on the forum. The gasket part # came up with my vin at automation ford. Even with the vin the parts guy was uncertain. I will be crawling under the van Thursday night.

Well you put down the parts guy at the local parts house, without actually meeting him face to face. Perhaps you should have before ordering parts online. I agree some there aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer but many are competent. Just steer clear of the one holding the smart phone.

The the comment was not directed at a single person. What I have noticed over the years is a decline in the skill level at parts stores. Years ago, many of the people behind the counter were very knowledgeable and helpful. Today, I don't see the skill level. But to be fair, I don't see locally owned parts stores around. Rather, I see "wax and oil" stores selling wonderfully marketed products. Most of the employees are good at running cash registers, procuring parts that pop up on the computer, and locking the doors when they leave.
I prefer ordering online at places like RockAuto because of the accuracy in the parts. If I get the incorrect part, it's usually because I made the mistake.
The felt gasket arrived last night and it's the correct gasket. I looked under the van last night at the differential and it's weeping fluid.
