52 doors

Hello all, currently working on the doors of the ole 52. All new glass and window channels and it's coming together. I have been able to go the thrifty route thus far. Now I am to the door handles. Specifically the latch mechanism. Which I believe does not come apart?? Drivers outside handle mechanism is worn or wollered out. Does anyone have any for sale? Or know a way to fix this? Thought I would check here before getting a new one... thanks!

Hello F2revival,
I've done two of these trucks and after futzing with used latches all I can recommend is to buy the reproduction ones. Unless you get hooked up with a solid member here who knows the latches well. The steel in the originals just isn't very robust nor is the stamped assembly design. The used ones for sale online like on E-Bay may only be in slightly better condition than your current ones. They may look nice in the pictures but upon close examination they have their wear and issues. Ask me how I know - I have one of them in a box of extras. Unless you buy a used one direct from a known FTE member who can spot the wear and true condition with an experienced eye for you, I'd suggest not taking chances.
I ended up buying a repro new one from Dennis Carpenter and although it was 'imported', it was pretty well made and solved the droopy handle issue I had. Nobody will ever see that it isn't a Ford part.
Some guys on here have the welding and fabrication skill and tools to make originals like new again - there are some threads that go into considerable detail.
If you want some fast, head to the catalog companies for a new one.
If you want only a Ford original one, place a post on the 'for sale and wanted' thread at the top of the page.
Good luck and keep your handle up.
Tom
