Post New to forums

Just hoping on board, I am new to this forum and have been busy reading the posts, in the past I have restored a 75 F250 and a 65 F100. I now am the owner of a 1960 F100. These seem to be a bit of an orphan truck, I have been having difficulty finding some needed parts.
I just rebuilt both window regulators as the knurled gear the crank handles attached to were rounded and totally shot.
I have the same problem with the inside door handles, does anybody know where I can get the door latch mechanism that the inside door handles attach to. A decent used mechanism would be nice. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Dennis

I don't know for sure but it's likely the mechanisms were not changed very much thru the years so that a mechanism designated for an earlier year may be able to be used. I'm surprised to hear the knurled shafts wore out, I'd expect the potmetal handles would wear out first.
PS welcome to the board.

As AX mentioned, welcome to the board! There are lots of very knowledgeable folks here and a few of us nuts. Remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

The 57-60 years do seem to have fewer parts available, but you should be able to find window mechanism parts as they tend to wear out. Check out the sponsor list at the top of the forum. If you can't find something there, you might post a wanted ad in the FTE classifieds. There is quite a bit of traffic there and I've found a few things for my truck through the classifieds. You can also look on eBay if you are interested in that route.

Welcome aboard Dennis

Sorry, I'm not going to be any help on your window regulator problems but there are many 57-60 nuts around here that should be able to help you out

Good luck
Bobby

Arrow Welcome Dennis!

FTE is a great source of know-how, support and good humour, so you're in a good place!
I'm not 100%, but I believe Dennis Carpenter is doing the '60 model.
You're right they have been "done" less but they have been coming on strong this past 2 years or so.
[They have been growing on me and look less and less ugly every day! ]

You can find Dennis Carpenter by doing a google search or, as George our moderator suggested, try some of our sponsors at the edge of your computer screen.

Auto wreckers. You may have to get well out of town into the rural areas to find the kind of yards that keep older vehicles around.

Thanks for the replys, if anybody hears of those door latching mechanisms being available or a 57-60 truck in a junkyard somewhere in the south half of Minnesota I'd sure appreciate knowing.
The door handles were worn out too, I got new ones of those, but the knurled part on my door mechanism were ruined also.
New to this forum, but about 3 years ago I was active on the Yahoo slick sixties ford truck forum when I was restoring my 64. I posted photos of my istallation of the front disk brake conversion.
Tomorrow I'll have to start checking some rural auto yards.
Thanks for the help.

Denny

I was just looking at Dennis Carpenter (www.dennis-carpenter.com) and found the door lock assemblies and shaft repair kits for the 57-60 trucks. I'd check them out and see if it's what you need.

B7C-8121818-RK looks like it's exactly what you want. Runs $15.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, I bought the door handle repair kit things, but after removing the mchanism from the door I determined I was not up to the job of replacing those shafts, as it is a unit that is very difficult to take apart. Replacing the shafts in the window regulators was quite easy, just drill out the rivets, replace the shfts, install steel pop rivets, lubricate and they are as good as new.
The first Junkyard I called today, had a 60 F100 sitting there, I drove up there pulled the inside door handles, the shafts looked good, I pulled both the door handle mechanism out in about a half hour, paid the $30, took em home and cleaned them up, lubricated and installed, they work fine, I'm a happy boy.
By the way easy Classics up in Dalbo, Minnesota has quite a few old Fords sitting there.

Dennis,

Glad to hear that you were able to get what you needed, and from the sounds of it, with a minimal amount of money and hassle.

enjoy the ride
