The wire color does change for different years of the pin 17 wire.
Yes it does, see the 1990 diagram below:

Just want to be sure with out burning something up.

Thanks again.
Im sorry to keep this going gentleman, but I can't seem to find Pin #17 (Tan/Red) wire under the dash anywhere.

Pin #12 is for low oil pressure or high engine temp.
Im confused at this point. This is what you told me earlier.

Im hooking an aftermarket check engine light up and still want it to maintain the same functionality as stock.

For the "Check Engine" light you will use the pin #9 of C251 connector. That is for the ECU to show a problem indication.

For the "Check Gauges" light(if engine is too hot or loose oil pressure) you will use pin #12 of C251, BUT I recall there is a small PCB hooked on the cluster that monitors the temp and oil sensors and outputs on pin#12 if either one is out of safe range.

As you are making up a instrument cluster with better gauges, I would not worry about the pin#12 of C251. Just use the pin #9 of C251. That pin goes back to pin #17 of the ECU for the "Check Engine" light to work

Thank you very much gentleman. I wouldn't have been able to do this project with out you.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

PS, I almost started terminating unused wires last night but I figured I'd wait until the project was test ran and the bugs were worked out first to be on the safe side. Close one.

Yea, don't wrap up the harness yet, been there and done that....tooo many times LOL!

I redid engine bay wire harness on my 89 F250 and after wrapping it up, found some issues that snuck in. Not fun destroying a freshly wrapped harness.

Happy Xmas too

@subford Just doing my double and triple checks here.

Which wire should I be using for the Low charge / Low battery warning light?
Lt Grn with red strip?
I thought I was looking for an output wire instead of an input?
The Red with Lt. Green is being hooked to a 12V source to activate the alt and I can't see that being used for a warning light. Or am I wrong?

Here is the charging wire diagram(not sure of exact year but it the same on my 89 F250 to my 95 E350) You will use the LG/R wire from the cluster, it is a dual function to energize the alternator AND show a charging fault(alternator not charging)
