Can anyone tell me the changes made to the instrument panels for these trucks and when they were made?
I'm aware that the physical size of the harness plug changed sometime around 1975 and the oil pressure and voltmeter gauges turned to dummy lights about the same time too.
My truck is a 1977 f150 and has the dummy lights and the shorter, wider harness plug. The gauge support (the white crumbly thing that the bulbs screw into) has a spot on the very top for a bulb to screw into for a high beam indicator is my guess that the printed circuit I have does not include.
Also, it seems that the fasten seat belts light and buzzer are getting power from the wiring that is supposed to supply my fuel gauge. The wiring behind the dash is correct (according to thr haynes manuel im referencing) and functional to the plug.
Because of these issues, I'm lead to believe that I have the wrong printed circuit for my cluster.
Sure would appreciate any knowledge you fellas have on the matter.
Maybe this will help? You have the changes correct, gauges to warning lights calls for a little different wiring. Yes blue high beam light bulb goes above the middle of the speedo.
Older 80 MPH and 100 MPH high beam light is in different place. Difference can also be where the brake light and high beam and seat belt is on a older 100 MPH versus a 80 one.
My cluster is configured like the last one pictured. The printed circuit that I have has a blue insulator and does not include a circuit for the high beam above the speedometer. From what you've shared, and being that my truck is a 1977, I'm thinking that my cluster is correct and my printed circuit is from that of an older model truck.
LMC and Dennis Carpenter show that Ford had a few different options for clusters in 1975 from products they have for sale so I'm thinking my printed circuit might be a later 1975 model.
I'd appreciate confirmation or a correction from anyone that might know.
The 1975 instrument cluster is a one year only, I'm pretty certain. It had a 'low fuel economy' light that came on any time you got too agressive with the fun pedal. My dad had a '75 Supercab with that stupid light in it.
I have a mint condition 1975 NON Gauge panel available if needed; came off my 60K mile one owner 1975 F250 highboy so I am certain this was factory correct in 1975.
It does not have a fuel economy light.
