8* here this AM. One full cycle (2 minutes) of glow plugs and a key recycle to reset them. 2.7 second start. A miss or two at first start (and of course some white smoke). but didn't last long. Engine has 184,000 +- on it.
-1* here this AM 2 cycles of glow plugs, one more recycle to reignite them and about 3 second start. Romped a bit for about 20 seconds, smoked for a while.
27* ambient temperature
60 seconds of glow plugs on via stopwatch
1 - 1.5 seconds of cranking before truck started with no romping
High idle at after about 20 - 30 seconds of running until I bumped throttle to shut it down
-32 this morning, -28 yesterday morning....got up to a high of -20.....Never even tried.
I did however have to move some hay with the Case 1845C....plugged it in for 2 hours....wouldn't crank fast enough...added the 200amp booster charger...got my hay moved.
Around 2 or 3* F this morning and it started fine. I could tell the batteries didn't like it though compared to "normal" cold temps around here. Fuel mileage really goes to crap this time of year.

IIRC it's not even recommended by the owner's manual to try to cold start it down that low. (Without plugging it in I mean)
-20 Yesterday & again this morning. I 've got an early '99 w/260,000 & synth. rottella. I have never plugged the truck in, in the 13yrs. I've owned it. She started with several cycles of Wait to Start, rompted very badly but started. Smoked so bad, I couldn't see the back of the truck for about 5 min.

Sweet! Do you have anything special in there for batteries? Mine cranks a little slow at -1 and I can't imagine what it's like at -20.
I used to experience a lot of the same results during cold starting. Just a FYI for all that I installed a small trickle charger for the cold months. The truck has remote started all winter with no issues. Do have a bit of blue smoke on start up but other then that she has been starting well. Even with the last few days in the negative 40’s for the wind chill, she has been firing right up.

I'm glad to hear it's treating you well, I was worried that I might have to go hide my head in shame.
Wind chill is only important for warm things like humans. No matter the wind chill the truck will only get down to ambient temp... Now ambiant
is still darn cold.
