Funny thing is that many folks just assume these hubs are "set it and forget it" type units. Not unlike how many folks will religiously change engine oil, but ignore the diff and xfer case fluid levels; never checking them.
The ESOF hubs are low-maintenance, but they are NOT zero-maintenance.
Take them apart at least once a year and clean/lube them.

Keeping them in good shape is not hard to do.
Keeping them in good shape will make replacement unnecessary, or at least a very infrequent exercise.
I've done a hub conversion on a friend's Ram 3500 to the ol-skool type manual lockers. Not hard to do. Very reliable. But an expense that can be avoided, or at least delayed, by many years with just a good mindset to keeping the ESOF hubs clean.
