Short Bed or Long Bed?

In my quest for a new truck, I am debating now on bed size/length.

I am going to get a 2003 Super Duty F250 Super Cab 4WD.
However, the bed length is the new issue.

I have found a dealership where both bed sizes are the same price, so I just need some input on which is better for my needs.

This will not be a daily driver, just used for ocassional hauling, towing, camping, fishing, etc.

Will the Super Cab with the 8' long bed really be too long? Anyone know the overall length of the above truck with the long bed and with the short bed?

The 'short box' still 6 3/4' long, correct? I am pretty sure even the SB won't fit into my garage, so there are not any garage related issues here.

How does Ford compensate for the 8" long bed; is the wheelbase actually longer, do they stretch the frame/bed, or just add onto the bed length after the rear tires? Mechanically, structurally, etc.....is anything about the truck different when comparing a long bed to the short bed?

I will definately have a tool box in the bed of my truck, unsure whether I am going with the over-rail or under rail type......since I might put a cap on the bed.

Thanks for any and all info and input.

it's only 18 more inches. My daily vehicle is my truck 03, F350 long bed crewcab 4x4. I think it rides better as is more usefull than the short bed.

Pictures of the truck in my gallery, for reference I'm 6'1" standing next to it to give you a feeling for the size

I debated the same thing

And I figured the extra foot + would make up for a tool box. Also if you ever put in a carpet kit/truck cap and plan to do some good ol' fashioned sleeping in the bed camping you'll be happy for the extra space. I actually had a guy try to tell me a short bed crew would ride better than a long bed crew.

Go for the long bed. Not only will you have a bigger tank (38 gallons, compared to the SB (29 gallons or something like that) but you'll be happy you got the longer size. (When it comes time to haul more fishing gear, etc.

On edit: Buzz Cut - Cool lookin' truck ! I'm about 6'2'' and trust me, I'm loving every minute of the extra room compared to a car. (I can't even get out of my parents car lol)

I have a SD SC SB. My truck fits in my garage and I like that, but...
The long bed is the way to go. For the gas tank, for the extra hauling, for the better ride, for the chicks...well, 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

Big

PS I will be upgrading to a CC with the Long bed (not soon enough!)

Go with the long bed. I have a short bed and when I replace it it will be a long bed.
