Use it if you want. Don't use it if you don't want to. Ford designed the truck to haul/pull just fine with T/H either on or off.

Where you do want to use it is in instances where the transmission keeps going back and forth from 5th to 6th. Repeated shifting like that is not good. T/H should keep that from happening.

Tow/Haul mode will change the shift points of your transmission making it seem to pull away easier. It will also downshift while going downhill sooner if you brake or the cruise control is on. Your choice whether to use it or not.

When in doubt it cant hurt. Engage the exhaust brake always a plus.

If you're going up and down hills then use it along with the exhaust brake. On flatlands its not really an issue. TH puts less strain on the tranny and helps take the load off the brakes when slowing or stopping.

When we go camping with our truck camper in the bed (3200 lbs) I'll use T/H up in the mountains or in stop and go traffic. And in the mountains I definitely use the exhaust brake too. When accelerating down the mountain sometimes it'll rev over 4k rpm, and not upshift, so I'll turn off T/H and manual shift. Lately I've taken to manual shifting with T/H off. And lockout overdrive!
I love how this thing hauls my load!

Is the exhaust brake an automatic part of tow haul mode? I can't find an option for it on my 2018? See my sig for highlights of my build.

NEVERMIND! I found the button on the dash...….
