I have a 2000 f250 super duty 4x4 extended cab with a 7.3. it has a serious oil leak after watching youtube I removed turbo and pedestal and replace both upper and lower O-rings. The hpop sensor and plugs at the ends of the vavle covers look ok. I still have a massive oil leak. I climbed onto the top of the engine and the valley is full of oil. Any ideas? Also to make more room to see down in there with the truck running can I remove the intake and the charge air and cold air pipe? Will it still run? I just figure if I can get some sttuf out of the way maybe I can spot that oil leak better.
Are your HPOP hoses leaking they’ll make a serious mess very quickly... Check the HPOP at the HPOP and head, if the hoses are original I would purchase new ones from Riff Raff Diesel and get them installed either way. They are something that would leave you stranded on the side of the road.
Is the whole valley full of oil front to back? If so your leak is in the front from the high pressure oil system somewhere. Could be the HPOP, gasket, HPO lines, or possibly a fitting.
My last oil hemorrhage was from a high pressure oil fitting on the HPOP. Clean up the oil that you can, start the truck, and use a flashlight and inspection mirror to see if you can find the source. If it's coming out that fast then there's a good chance you can spot it even at idle speed.
Yes, you can take off the CAC tubes and intake and the truck will run no problem. Just keep things away from the turbo inlet and the passenger's side of the spider as both of those will be suction sources.
Lastly, I recommend you post engine-related issues in the 99-03 7.3L section. Lots of guys with ridiculous knowledge over there willing to help. Since our trucks are very old there's not much relevant stuff for us over here so they keep to that section primarily.
