Which way is the arrow on the thermostat supposed to face? I just read it should point to the back and recall pointing it forward on install. Does it really matter which way its facing and why is it there?
That is the flow direction of coolant.
OK Thought a little more on this and figured a little more info...USUALLY it the the flow of the coolant.
But for our 7.3s... Spring side down.

That's what I had assumed, but then read some guy saying the arrow must face the engine. Its just there so you don't but the dang thing in upside down, which isn't even possible. The arrow can face front or back. I really don't think it matters, but want to clarify this for the next dude.

IIRC the arrow points to a small hole in the flange of the T-stat. This is to allow air to escape. So being the front of the engine is a bit higher than the back..thats where air bubbles will go. Hole front to let em out.
I'm an idiot, its to orient that little air valve so its at the highest point because the engine is slightly tilted. I also just read an excerpt from a manual where it had the valve at the 9 o'clock position. It doesn't matter, if it really did the dang thing would have front and back written on it or something more than a small stupid arrow. I'm only wondering because I have air in my system and can hear it at start up after truck has been sittin for a 12hrs.
