Coolant flush question

So I have read the coolant flush procedure in the tech folder and I have a question about it. To the best of my knowledge when I put my new thermostat in, I recall it being one piece with the thermostat being made to the housing. in the procedure to flush it talks about taking the thermostat out to heat the engine up quicker. but how is this possible if the housing and thermostat are one piece? can some one try to explain this to me?

thanks,
Stephen

It is removable. It is held in place by spring tension. If I remember correct, just push down on the two thermostat support legs and rotate it. It will pop right out of the housing.

I have been looking into doing the flush myself also, bought the coolant from ford. Just a little weary of the driving around with water in the engine. I dont think i clearly got the jist of the whole flush but im going to try it. Actually excited as Im sure it needs done and will make her run better.
