Looking for a few pics of cab mount and bed rebuilds. Been searching the site and it seems most vendors sell the tear-drop style mount although someone turned me onto Carolina classics and it seems like the sell a channel type mount just wondering which is correct?
Also I'm sure someone here has replaced the sheet metal on their bed before. Mine has been ripped out and the corner pieces are either removed or blown out same as the fender well. Would like some pics of how it should be so I can start the cleaning and dabbing process.
First pic is just something I found. Are the corner pieces welded in and the corrugated center bolted to them or all welded in? Also where's the best place to obtain the center? LMC sells it but they are 16" wide am I supposed to weld 2-3 pieces together?
I'm dealing with the same issue on my truck. From researching this forum, the pattern of the stamping is different. In your case, it might not matter because your entire floor is gone. You are replacing everything except the flat pieces in the corners.
And yes, it is welded in. The edges of each section turn down 90 degrees and then they are spot welded together.
Got a response with video from Carolina classics about the mount. As stated before when doing a quick google search some sites listed the 63 mount as the teardrop style. CC sells the channel type and after watching the customer vid of the box mount and floor pan fitment I know who I'm going with. Been raining here in VA but I took the plunge just now after work and climbed under the truck, sure as ***** mine has the channel/box type mount as mentioned.
Now should I fab my own bed corners or look for replacement panels?
I think you need to be looking for another bed. Here are a couple of pictures of my bed. All the parts in these beds were pinch welded with a spot welder. The corner pieces can be fabricated from sheet metal. I used some bed floor pieces from Key Parts in Lynchburg, VA. '80-'96 BED FLOOR SECTION 1981-099 - Key Parts, Inc.
The main reason I used these was the local body shop supply goes up there to pick up parts every couple of weeks so I got a good price plus no shipping cost. I cut them to the size I needed then had the local sheet metal shop break the edges for the pinch weld.
