2016 Ford F150 Super , P0340, P0344

Today , I went to auto-start my truck and the engine spun over for almost a minute. It started, but sounded rough. I got in to drive it and the check engine light was on. Really sluggish and idles poorly. I was wondering why this would happen in a 2016 F 150 Supercrew cab with a 5.0 liter motor?? I know the codes are camshaft positioning sensor codes. The truck has 7,400 miles on it . Oh well, I can get the recalls taken care of and the sensors fixed in one visit. Anyone experience this same sensor failure??

Sensors fail.If the truck is still under warranty, take it in and get it fixed under warranty, if not, unfortunately you'll have to open your wallet.

Pretty sure those are both due to low oil pressure. Those codes are from the VCT. The truck has oil in it right?

Oil is full and just changed in August 2018. Thanks for your input.

I dropped the truck off at the dealership and I will update when the problem is diagnosed and repaired under warranty. Thanks . I guess this is a good indicator that buying an extended warranty was a good idea.

Sorry to hear about your problems. but yes, this is a very good reason to purchase a "Ford" ESP because any part or parts can fail at any given moment because they are all man made.
Let us know what your dealer says.

I got the call today the recalls were completed. The tech stated the camshaft positioning sensor failed. I asked if this is a common problem, oil related, or should expect other sensors to fail prematurely. He stated this is not a common problem , but sensors do fail at different intervals. He stated he has seen this failure in higher mileage vehicles that have engine wear. I was pleased that the local dealership could diagnose and repair this problem before the holidays.

Thanks OP for reporting back with the corrected issue...of a camshaft positioning sensor failure. Glad it had NO long-term effects on your engine!

My new 2018 F150 5.0 just thrown these codes. It had less than 2k miles and I was 600 miles from home. I cleared the codes and they came back. I checked the oil and it was clean and clear. Took it to the local Ford dealer in that area and they quickly diagnosed the cam senor need to be replaced. It was done and no more codes. Trip home was good.

Thanks Rogue F350 for the reply.I was shocked as the intake cam positioning sensor went bad at such a low mileage interval. It was replaced and the truck runs well. I am glad Ford got you up and running fast . Good luck with your truck.
