Need some help with tilt kit!

I can't get it to close!

I think I need to lengthen the Heim Joints up front, but I'm not sure. It is so close I hate to mess with it!

The gap at the cowl is about 1/4". So if I lengthen the heims it will close it up some.

To move the hood back you will need to elongate the mounting holes in the hood latch panel and move the heim joint mounting bolts back. This is assuming that the holes are not already large enough to move the mounting bolts back. Lengthening the heim joints will only raise the front of the hood. You are not too far off now but the hood does definitely need to go back...don't forget to keep the gap at the fender in mind as you close the gap at the top cowl.

Charlie I can't slide them back any further because the crossbar/rod is almost rubbing the radiator support.

In the picture I was referring to the upper heim, which you can't see. They are attached to the upper hood braces. When the hood is laying flat, they are almost parallel which is why I thought maybe they could be lengthened.

IllI see if I can get some better pictures.

On virtually every one of these type hood kits that I have seen, the crossbar rubs on the hood latch panel in front of the radiator. Most times the hood can be aligned with the crossbar just touching the latch panel but sometimes they can't. I am familiar with the rear heim joints but I don't think that they will help...they are there to add stress to the hood itself and make it sit square. Some hoods have a twist in them and need this adjustment more than others. The gap on the top of the hood along the cowl is supposed to be a bit wider than the sides...as far as I can tell it makes a bit more clearance for the rear lip of the hood when the hood is raised.

Well Charlie my memory failed me. I can slot them some.

I am still curious about lengthening the heims though... I think if I lengthening the heims circled it will push the hood back towards the fire wall. I'm not sure how it will affect the rest of the hood though.

I forgot about those heims...yes, lengthening them will push the hood back. IF the leading edge of the hood is currently in alignment with the points on the front of the fenders then there will be issues as that adjustment will be thrown off. I see by the pic in your last post that you have the No Limit tilt kit...take care as you move the hood back that you don't bottom out the rollers on the cowl.

Well, I am at my wits end. I have adjusted everything.

Lengthening those heims helped the gap at the back, but it made the front of the hood even harder to shove down. I then shortened them and lowered the rear roller plates all the way down, the hood bottomed out on the cowl where the inner fender and fender bolt, but the front would close. The hood just sit about an inch off of the cowl and sticks in front of the front fenders an inch.

I left the rear rollers low, and lengthened the heims out, it then brought the front farter down but I still have to jump on it to get it to close.

All that is left to do is remove the striker plate and basically lower the crossbar so it sits on the valence as you suggested. Hopefully that will help.

Well I figured it out....sort of.

I had the bushings flipped the wrong way and the wide side was bottoming out on the hood braces...see below.

this the correct way.....
