Key or no key for tailgate?

I have a 2018 F350 Lariat CC SB with auto lock/unlock for tailgate. I haven't been able to find a keyhole for manual locking/unlocking. I have a tonneau cover so if lock fails and everything is closed up how do you get into bed?

Thanx - Dean

Good question, haven't been able to find an answer myself. Nothing in the owners manual either. It's doable without a locking bed cover, so I suppose that's as far as Ford thought to take it.

Depending on what type of tonneau cover you have, the lock/latch mechanism can be easily defeated (as seen on YouTube). The folding covers with interior pull wire release or trigger pull release being the easiest. Covers simply put stuff out of sight or protect them from the weather elements.

I have a Truxedo Lo Pro and it has a trigger/lever that gets pulled toward the back of truck to release it, but I just tried and it hardly moves with tailgate closed. I released the velcro on the side so I could get my arm inside. I don't know if its pinched tight or I'm just a wimp Maybe I need to go to the gym first or rig up some kind of leverage tool.. I couldn't find any youtube videos.

Thanx - Dean

I have given that same scenario some thought and decided to fabricate lanyard that hooks onto the cable-pull latch release of my tonneau cover. I' will incorporate a detachable foot-loop so I can use my foot to release the latch while my hands are free to lift the tonneau open. The lanyard will be fed through a hard-mounted aluminum tube inside a boxed corner of the bed below the stake pocket. With any luck, I'll leave the detachable foot loop under the rear seat and never have to use it.

I believe the keyless lock is part of the upper lines. I didn't even know I was getting that until I was reading thru the owners manual.

I have a 2017 XL / STX. There is no keyed lock on the tailgate. It locks and unlocks with the automatic door locks.

Do you have a tailgate release on the dash?

No automatic tailgate release on the XL. Have to do it the old fashioned way! But it does lock automatically with the door locks.
