It's wonderful that you are safe from this terrible fire. It's horrible that you and others have lost so much. I am so very sorry.
None of the reports I have seen on the Camp Fire have been good, other than for those of you who escaped.
I can't offer much help from here in Virginia, but I wish you the very best in this awful situation. It's obvious from the responses here that you have many friends at FTE.
Hi all and a heart felt thank you for all the comments, offers, and prayers. we have been moved 4,5,6, times and are now in Yuba City at a RED CROSS shelter amen. My hands are shaking so this will be short, but just wanted to check in.We are with a hundred or so other folks on cots and are very gratfull for them. Any how its to soon to know anything, but I just wanted to check in with you all wonderful people, I do love you all. Rock on my FTE friends, and Blessings to you all. PS boy do I need a shower LOL
I can't imagine what it must be like for you . After all the loss from storms and fires , it makes me think about what it would be like to , wake up and not know what to do next . Stay strong and hope for the best .
Too bad I'm 1500 to 2000 miles away. Otherwise, I would offer you a place to stay.
If you can make it to central Missouri, I will leave the light on for you.
OK FTEers, we know our Brother Jimmy as the kindest, most encouraging, and humblest of those in our corner of the internet. Let's see if there is a way for the collective FTE community to help he and his family in some tangible way. I'm hoping that we have members that can guide us with knowledge-based comments about actions that we can take to help.
My thoughts:
Knowing that they are in a Red Cross shelter, and may be for a while, can the US Post Office deliver to those locations?
Would gift cards to places like Walmart, Kohl's, gas stations, or grocery stores the most helpful?
Would we need more that a name and RC shelter address to get this going?
I'm hardly the expert on any of this but simply want to help Jimmy.

Good idea. Most banks these days use Zelle to transfer money for free vs the 2½% charged by PayPal. You have to sign up at the bank but it is free, That may be too much of a hassle for him but it is easy to use and would put money right into his bank account. For you veterans that us USAA as your bank here is a link with more details. https://www.usaa.com/inet/wc/mobile_...kredirect=true
So, the voice of ignorance here. With the PayPal or gofundme, Jimmy would need a debit card account or access to a branch of his bank to gain access to the funds, right? Not showstoppers, just a process step I suppose
PayPal accounts are linked to a bank account, usually a checking account. If we had the email address he uses for his PayPal account, we can put money in, he can transfer it out of PP to his bank account on-line, then use an ATM card to get it out, or write checks, whatever. Pete, yes, there is a 2 - 3% charge for credit card donations. Same applies for GoFundMe accounts.
Ross not all PayPal accounts are attached to a bank. I do not have mine attached to one, it is attached to a credit card for me to pay for things but not a bank. Would that work as well to get money?
I'm a little late to this thread, its been a tough week.
Jimmy,
Thanks for letting us know you are OK. That had to been a tough call to abandon everything and get out. I'm glad you did (and glad you got the dogs out too). My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It wouldn't be as flexible. He could (I assume) use PP balance to pay off his CC, but I have no experience doing that, not sure it can even be done. May be a one-way street. Jimmy needs to tell us.
