Question all. Got a 78 tore down. Got the front end and bed tore off and plan to take the cab off briefly to replace body mounts all round and por 15 the frame. Is it worth popping rivers to rust proof under the hangers and such? And is so, what's yuall opinion of putting back on. I dont have a rivet gun. Thanks all
Dunno how much salting VA does but unless you are bringing in a pristine AZ truck into someplace where they salt really heavily, I would just paint the frame with POR15 and make sure you really flow it into all the little crevices and joins. It's already 40+ years old, if it hasn't rusted badly by now it is probably not going to instantly start. Is it going to be a show queen or a driver?
I don't know if you've seen my build thread, but if anyone is going to be that ridiculously ****, it would be me 😂
So knowing where I'm coming from, I'd still agree with the above post. If it's currently good, leave it alone. That's 3/16" steel, it'll stand up to a fair amount. POR 15 is great stuff, just brush it on and go.
If you do want to go that far, you can substitute grade 8 hardware for the rivets.
