still leaking fuel

couple weeks ago I dropped the fuel tank and the hitch. Installed a new fuel filler tube, sending unit gasket & ring, fuel hoses & clamps. Stupid thing is still leaking. When we looked at the fuel filler tube it was pretty rusty and just assumed that is where the fuel was leaking from since it only leaked very little when it was full. Not sure what to do now any suggestions. Thanks

Have you checked your vent tube? Double checked all your clamps?

Is your threaded ring installed correctly? Just a thought.
Took mine to the dealer to replace the sending unit, and fuel pump, my first fill up a week after, I ended up with a good gallon pouring onto the ground right there at the station. After that road trip to Florida I made sure to arrive home on empty so I could drop the tank and see what was going on. Sure enough the dealer cross threaded the ring, visibly crooked, and it was not sealing the sending unit plate to the gasket on the tank. I could lift the sending unit up about 1/4" inch.
Granted it was a real pain to get it threaded properly before tightening it down. And it took some good effort the last few turns before it tightened. Seemed like all the years of diesel contact likely swelled the both sets of threads.

I installed the ring and gasket myself. It was definitely threaded on correctly. I guess we will have to drop the tank again.

Clean the threads on the ring and male receiver ring and I wiped mine with a tad of wd40 and then wiped them off again to remove debris.

The gritty threads after years of swelling are a bit rough. Then tighten as best as possible, and make sure that o-ring seal is exactly in place and carefully thread it back together.

To tighten I improvised and have zero leaks. If you improvise, don't apply too much pressure, just get it between the tangs to allow it to rotate, but get it good and tight. ...alternately buy the tool.

Im thinking now that it just might be leaking someplace other than the fill tube. We just assumed it was leaking there. We replaced the ring and gasket just as preventative measure. It has never leaked alot just enough to wet the bottom of the skid plate and small puddle underneath. Not sure when Ill have a chance to mess with it again.
