I'm having brake issues with my stock spindles. Will later year spindles fit my kingpins?? I'm trying to get 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. No luck with stock spindles. Please Help
F1-3 spindles from 48-52 are all the same. Those are the only ones that will fit, assuming you're talking about a 49 Ford F1,2, or 3. You didn't say. If you want to elaborate on your brake issues, perhaps we can help you better.
Sorry, it's a 49 F1. Seems to a real lack of options. Cheap single piston conversion seems to be the only option for the 5 x 4.5 Small Ford bolt pattern. Wilwood makes a conversion, but only for the 5 x 5.5 Ford Truck pattern. The Explorer rear swap is the 5 x 4.5 Mustang or Small Ford pattern on those disc brakes. Currently have what appears to be a Mopar truck rear end with the 5 x 5.5 pattern. FRUSTRATED
I used the Speedway Disc Brake kit on the front which is 5 x 5.5, I used an Explorer Sportrac rear axle which as you noted is 5 x 4.5. My wheels were made by Wheelsmith. The rears are too wide to fit the front so IMHO it isn't worth all the trouble of changing the rear axle to a 9" Ford 5 x 5.5. I just carry a good air compressor and have AAA and a cell phone. Many of the new cars do not have spares either but do have built in air compressors.
When is the last time anyone you know had a blowout or a flat while driving on the road. Most of mine a slow leaks and I notice the flat in my driveway the next day.
