Got a CE light on my way to work this morning. Seemed to run smooth but every once in a while it seemed to get a little sluggish for a split second. Don't know where to even start looking. I hope I can get the beast home tonight. What scan tool works best on these trucks?
things to check while placing an order
Do you have more than 1/4 tank fuel? Shower head is known to break or suck air
measure fuel pressure with a tire gauge
last time you changed fuel filter?
Oil level full? low oil will cause injectors to stop running
First thing I did was check oil, it was good. Oil change ~2k miles ago. Changed fuel filter about the same time. Removed tanks and replaced shower heads when I bought the truck ~8k ago. New stock fuel pump about the same time. I have noticed my fuel pressure fluctuates from 50 to 70 lbs and back when I'm @ 65 or 70 mph.
so long as fuel does not drop below 45 PSI at WOT, you should be good
you need to get the codes that are stored or its an expensive guessing game
I'll check that fuel filter when I get back to my shop. Do I need to get all three of those scan items in the links you sent me? I'm assuming the 2nd and 3rd link is for the software for the 1st?
I drain my filter for water first since it can impede flow of fuel
Then see if filter is clogged
if black and slimy, you might have algae growing in tanks
if dark it could be an injector oring failing
1st is the dongle I use with an android phone
2nd is the phone app I use
3rd is used by some for the tests the other does not have
Update- Looks like it's just a clogged filter. Drained the bowl right before I left for home after work. No CE light all the way (30miles). I still notice my fuel pressure goes up and down sometimes below 40lbs. I'm thinking I've put off the E-fuel long enough and just need to bite the bullet. Anybody got a suggestion that won't break the bank?
