Hey yall im having a problem with my truck and thought somebody might want to chime in. i have a 1994 f150 with the 5.o e4od transmission. It dies whenever i put the truck in drive, ive replaced the torq converter solenoid pack and the iac. if anybody could help it would be great
No not at all, the thing is if you disconnect the battery for awhile and plug it back up you can put it down into first, but once you go to second the rpms drop and when you go to drive it idled like at 500 and sounds like it wants to die, but once you get going down the rode it does good, but then the code comes back and you can’t do nothing with the truck.
"Most " E4 issues reported here over the years are electrical in nature rather than parts failures, but hard part fails do occur.
Personally I had mine rebuilt because I was sure it was about to catastrophically fail.
In the end, it was leaking caps & a failing PSOM issue on top of that.
I was getting TC clutch codes, then slipping where the rpms would increase with the truck slowing, then NO codes at all.
What kind of mileage are we talking about? Is the fluid dark/dirty or burned smelling.
(edit) if pulling the bat cables restore some function & replacing the solenoid pack did nothing, I be more sure that the problem is in the computer, but others may say different.

The egine has about 212000 miles on it but about 10 thousand miles I had a front main seal on the transmission replace and they went over the entire transmission components because off the limp mode occurring sometimes when you drove the truck.but they said everything was fine
Well in that case mechanical failure is certainly possible.
but it when I drive it it’s perfectly fine, it was owned by my dad before me and he replaced the transmission when it had 120000 thousand miles and it didn’t do much towing or anything just the occasional drive to town or to haul something. Also the fluid was bright red before I changed it and the filter
As David stated, the connector on the solenoid end has known to get contaminated with grease/oil/moisture. When you checked the solenoid pack did you give it a good inspection? Also verify the pins are in good condition and fully seated in the connector. I believe there is a connector, C103, located on the driver side fender well liner that is a junction point between the computer and the transmission. That is a spot to also inspect.
From there you could have a bad connection at the PCM, computer, or as David suggested the computer itself could have a problem. It's a process of elimination.
Yeah I’ve inspected the pins and they look good I’ve also used electric cleaner and cleaned them and used dielectric grease to make a good connection I’ve also traced the wires back and they look fine.
