Adding cruise control 2007 F250XL air bag issue
Greetings,
First post but I have been trolling for some time and learning alot.
My ride is a 2007 F250XL standard cab FX4. It came with factory tow package, power windows/door locks and mirrors.
I have added factory fog lights and a factory single CD player.
I wanted to add cruise control and looked around the web at various forums and vendors. It looks like the best way to do it would be to add a complete steering column from a XLT F250 so that is what I did. The installation was fairly straight forward and everything connected in the same manner as the old. The donor was from a 2005 F250. I reused my existing turn signal switch and key cylinder.
Upon start-up I had the airbag light start to flash a code 32 which indicates a high resistance/open circuit on the drivers side airbag as best that I can tell. Also, the horn did not work. I read somewhere that the trucks computer will need to be reprogrammed to read the new airbag which is not a problem as the dealer will have to "turn on" the cruise control anyway. Somewhere else that I read said that the clock spring is probably bad and needs to be replaced.
My question is what is your experience in these situations and which solution do you believe is the correct one.
Thank you in advance for your answers.
UPDATE: I finally got around to replacing the clock spring. Had a heck of a time getting the steering wheel off. One of the factory cutouts broke off and I had to get a larger puller and go to the notches on the outside. It looked like there was some sort of locker on the splines and it took a lot to get it to move. Once off the replacement was pretty straight forward. Re-installed everything, connect the battery and started the engine. The air bag light was out, the horn worked and the switches for the cruise lit when I turned the lights on. Now its just a matter of getting it to the dealer and have them turn the cruise control on. I'll update again once that is complete.
