Hydroboost, pump, other?

We're talking about a 2005 F550 with a 6.0. Just finished installing new ball joints, front axle u-joints, axle vacuum seals and upper and lower right side tie rod ends. I did not have the truck aligned yet but I measured the tie rod ends prior to removing the old ones so they have to be close. Took the truck for a ride and had no power steering while making a turn. Power steering wasn't bad when driving straight but wasn't right. I did feel like the power steering kicked on when I got the engine up to 1500 rpm. Took the truck into a parking lot to drive around a bit and steering continued to hard when making turns. I didn't have a problem stopping but it did feel like the brake pedal suddenly got hard halfway down or so. I recently replaced two power steering hoses connecting to the hydroboost. They were leaking and we replaced the fluid with power steering fluid which I'm now reading wasn't optimal. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Did you perform the air bleeding procedure after swapping the lines? If not, you need to. I don't know the details, you'll have to look it up, but I think you jack up the front end, engine off, and spin the steering wheel back and forth a bunch of times lock to lock.

No I did not do this. The truck was driven a few times after changing the lines without an issue but I will look into this. Hope it's this simple.

You want the Mercon V for the PS system. By any chance is there an inline filter in the
PS lines? If not they a vacuum bleeder is the best but if you don't have one you can jack
the front end up off the ground. Be sure to place on jack stands. Fill the reservoir and
start engine. Cycle the wheelfull travel a few times. If you hear growling you have air. So
go a few more cycles. Also you may want to check the serpentine belt and all the idlers
to be sure they are not dragging. Here are some PDFs you might find handy. They come
from the 2006 year Ford service manual.
