Looking at 00 Excursion 7.3l

Hello after owning a V10 and a modded 6.0l Ex I am looking at another one. What are the pluses and minuses of the drivetrain? I always read they are bulletproof and like the sound they make. I know the engine makes less power but what are some common issues. I need it for a weekend truck and occasional tow vehicle. I do plan on upgrading it for more power to at least the power of the 6.0l. What are some common low buck upgrades to it. Is it hard to get parts for the drivetrain? How far power wise will the stock trans take me? I know about Woods and BTS trans but trying not to drop big bucks up front.

Unless you're adding a blower you will NEVER get a 6.8L V-10 to the power/torque numbers of a 6.0L.

No flame required. You just didn’t read the thread title. He’s looking at a 7.3, after having had both a V10 and 6.0.

A few simple mods to the 7.3 makes it run like a whole different engine. I’ve never raced a 6.0 excursion but it is common to beat most ricers doing a little stop light racing.

4” exhaust
wicked wheel in the turbo
hydra from php with tunes
AIS air filter ( better filtration and dirt hold capacity )
you will want a EGT and trans temp gauge with that setup

with just those mods I’d suggest a Tugger valve body and Red Eagle clutches.... Billet converter if you can swing it.
