Its as simple as the title says, my fan runs all the time, from the time I start the truck until I shut it down. I assume its the clutch but I'm looking for other potential causes before just go ahead and replace it.
The oil temp is steady at 175*, and the tranny temp stays at 135*.
Thanks Mark, I checked and its frozen. Now is it possible that since I just had the fan off to install the Navistar water pump and maybe didn't re-install it properly? Or is it just the clutch is done?
I was always told that laying a fan with a thermal clutch down flat will cause them to go bad. Probably not true because when you buy one at the parts store they don’t even consider the orientation of the box it is in. That said, did you lay it flat for an extended period of time before re-installing it?
I had my fan clutch flat/horizontal for a couple days and it is fone 4 years later. Also, think about special handling that would be needed during shipping from the retailer if this was true.
There are some clutches that can leak if laid flat, old Porsche I think it was. These clutches don't care. It could be that you damaged it somehow or maybe just a fluke that it failed right after the work.
