So, you guys that say gp replacement is easy..i hope tonight, people put plastic forks all throughout your yard and leaves a flaming burrito on your doirstep..this crap was no joke..anyway, Sous, go at it eith deep socket 10mm then once a few turns in, lift up and just bite enough of the nut on the gp to then, finish unbolting it, so you then can fish out the socket. Then have a 6" piece of 3/16 fuel line to remove it...i fought #7 for an hr until the lightbulb went on..to conclude, #1 & #8 gp's were stuck. No dice fellas. Had to bury them back in. They were OEM/BERU gp's too....got 6 of 8 registering 0.00, them to are "open"

Well, 75% isn't bad for working GP's. I told myself that 2 were out, that was acceptable, so of course 3 tested bad.

So, crack the GP's loose with a 10mm deep socket a few turns. Why lift up slightly on the GP but to finish loosening it?

I had remembered the fuel hose trick, I will look around the garage for something that will work.

Timmy, reading your comments on the glow plugs here flipped the switch for me. I thought I was doing something wrong while trying to Ohm them earlier today. I had 1 reading ~40, 1 reading ~2 and I couldn't get anything off the others. I'm thinking they are all toast not that I was doing it wrong.

One more repair to the list

Looks like you have a sole survivor there and only 1 GP in working order.

you'll see when it happens but, with socket installed and gp fully unthreaded, you cant get the movement of socket to clear the lip of the pushrod "cup". With socket "semi" seated, its then higher then that lip, thus unthreading gp a no issue. Slap fuel line over nipple to remove...ill bat .750..makes me want to change the 02' gp's so no sticky...whats ur 2 pennies on the stuck ones being opposite of fuel delivery?

I've seen your posts about the pigtail before and I like that idea for the future. This is the first time I've seen your leads though. I like that idea as well.

That makes sense and will make more once I have the valve covers off I'm sure.

Not sure what to make of the two problem GP's and their position in relation to fuel delivery. How many miles on the truck and do you suspect they were original GP's?

For future reference I have some notes below about my GP removal adventure from today.

1. There were obstructions in the 10mm socket space for 2 of the cylinders. The obstruction was the end of the small zip ties from an OEM UVCH.
2. I used a fish tank tube which fit over the very end of the GP because I didn't have 3/8" hose.
3. All 8 of my GP's were Beru Germany (OEM) and 3 were showing up as bad. Two of them were in the 40's and one was open when ohm tested.
4. All 8 GP's came out of the cylinder and looked nearly identical after 255,000 miles.
5. I had no signs of a hard start situation, the GP's were a victim of opportunity.

3/16 hose, Sous-ties.. ..
For future tool arsenal, gunna weld a deep socket 1/4in 10mm to a 1'4" 6" extension to it and grind down the top so it clears THE LIP

I knew the size of the hose, but didn't want to drive all the way to town to get it. The fish tank line worked quite well because I could slide the tube all the way into the contact probe.

As for the tool that is a good idea.

I'm confused, wouldn't they read "OL" if they were open? 0.00 indicates continuity with zero resistance on the meters I use. I've been confused before so ..... ;-)

It did a caddyshack slice. With digital volts reading within the phone charger adaotor, it sugnified sumting wong somewhere. That somewhere was the gp's. Now thats where we are. The 6 of 8 NOW read 0.00. The other 2 are open(bad and left in motor since theyre stuck)...volt reading now dips to mid 11. Im stoked and she sounds better firing off, new batts and injectors torqued.
