Thanks for the info. I ordered that fuel pump after verifying the part number. Given the age of my generator and the number of hours on it I figure a spare fuel pump can't be a bad thing. I should have done this months ago.
For anyone that stumbles upon this thread, the original Onan part number is A029F887 which was superseded with part number A047N929. Part number 149-2620 is a related direct fit part. The AirTex part number E11015 is a direct fit. Supposedly AirTex is the OEM supplier to Onan (I read it on the Internet so it must be true!). As near as I can tell, this is the correct part number for Onan Marquis Gold 5.5kw generators with a model number of HGJAB spec A through E. The Onan parts diagram can be found here:

A couple more tidbits.
1. I had my generator recently serviced by Onan/Cummins. This was a Level 2 service that included fluids, filters, spark plugs and valve adjustment.
2. I put only Ethanol-free fuel in my generator's fuel tank. That should help keep the carb from gumming up and allow the fuel to stay a bit more fresh.
I don't use my generator all that much but there was one circumstance where if it hadn't worked I would have been breaking camp right away and heading home due to it being 8° F outside. My furnace shut down and I supplemented it with space heaters until I could get the furnace back running.
