So I haven't driven the Ex since this weekend which we had warm weather and my AC ran just fine. Cold front came in, and started the EX up and turned on the defrost which turned on the AC and the engine started screeching. I noticed that if I turned off the AC it went away. I also noticed that if I kept it on and drove a little it would stop screeching randomly but then come back. Luckily it is still cold so I don't need the AC, but I am sure it will warm up soon since we have that crazy weather here in Texas. Could my belt just gotten loose or, did my compressor go bad, thoughts? If i need a new compressor, do I order one with or without the clutch? I have a mechanic buddy that will help me, but I would rather order what I need ahead of time than sourcing it locally when its being worked on to save some money. I would take it by my buddy earlier so he could check it so that I could order what I need but he isn't close by to do that (About an hour away). Thoughts?
For sure check your belt for serviceability. Before the compressor, I'd check the clutch for serviceability. Mine rusted out and ended spitting the ball bearings into the housing, locking it up, which prevents the engine from turning over. The clutch itself was easy to replace and has been working just fine ever since.
Thanks, this morning upon turning it on, it had a little intermittent squeak with defrost on and no AC, if I turned off the defrost completely and ran all other settings without AC there was no squeaking. Dunno, just glad it is cold right now and don't need my air, but the defrost is a must.
