New to me 2016 F350 DRW- Had motor under warranty

As the title says, I'm one day into owning a 2016 350 DRW CCLB 4x4 Lariat, only 33k miles so its basically like new. I do see the outside front tires wearing so an alignment or ball joint could be the culprit so I'm going to take it in before the bumper to bumper expires.

I called my local dealer, and made the appointment. After talking to the guy I asked him to pull an OASIS on the truck. He told me it had a short block at 26 miles, Feb of 2016 and wasn't even purchased until June of 2016. Complaint is "running rough with metal grinding sound, drained oil, only 4 quarts with shavings , Remove cab replace short block."

That sounds like it came off the truck that way, in fact, I'd be willing to be the PO had no idea. Anyway, the truck runs good and I figured if there was a problem with the repair, it would have happened in the 33k put on since then.

Do you think I could bargain with ford for a deal on an extended ESP?

The engine has a 5/100k warranty anyway correct?

Purchased truck in Louisville, KY at a Chevy dealer.

I am sure you could bargain with ford for ESP, if you go this route, ensure that the coverage is more than just powertrain, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it. Congrats on the new truck!

Ford gets nothing from a used sale, so I doubt you have any chance of getting a bargain ESP plan based on a repair when it was new and you didn't own it. Let alone you bought it from a Chevy dealer so not even the dealer got anything from it. Go to Flood Fords website and price one out, their prices are a bargain compared to any of the local dealer prices anyway.

As for the front tires, welcome to owning a Ford dually! The only solution is to rotate them often, like every 3-4k religiously. I don't know if the standard AS tires wore better but every one including mine with the BFGs eats the outside edges. I've had the alignment checked, only out a tiny bit on toe but no help to the tires. Mine went 37k and I could have gotten a bit more from them but they were badly dryrotted and with winter closing in I just replaced all 6.

Google Flood Ford ESP and Zeigler Ford ESP..both sell online and can make purchase online...Flood is cheaper by a couple hundred on average but requires payment in full......Zeigler had 0% financing 12 months after 10% down. I went with Zeigler for the financing.

Hmmmmm........I swap my tires side to side every oil change (@7500 mi) and have over 47000 on the original BFG’s and they look like they will go a while longer.

Mine would have been gone by 20k at that interval. Montys only made 26k IIRC. Both trucks were on the rack and neither was off by much. A buddy has a 2011 F350 dually pickup and a 2015 F350 dually with a service body and they both eat the outsides too. I could have probably made 40k but they would have been bald. Every one I've seen eats the outside edges up.

Thanks for the replis so far. I have been looking at Lombard Ford ESP, prices are pretty good there so I'll try ford anyway to see what they tell me before I do anything. All of the window stickers I've looked at for 6.7 trucks only says 5/60 power train so I was happy to hear there is actually a 5/100 on the diesel. Makes me wonder if the reason I see so many 60k 6.7 trucks on the used market is that people don't know the warranty isn't just 5/60.

On the tire front, the truck has the BF Goodrich rugged trails, they are about half tread at 33k miles, and I suspect they are original as the date code is 4815 and the truck was made December 15th 2015. If the alignment is good, I'm going to suggest these trucks have weak lower ball joints and the diesel weight forces the knuckle to rotate under the truck due to the wheel spacers, wearing the outside of the tire. It makes perfect sense if you think about it.
I'll let you know what happens.

Mine have 67k miles, with the rears at 5/32's about 5k to end of life. Fronts are at 8-9/32's because i include tge spare in the rotation pattern i suspect 10k more miles in the 3-set, with plenty omn the spare to be a spare if i ignore age. Very hard to believe with 75% of my miles piulling a 16k 5er., but true, These are bfg's. However about 95% highway and less than 1% gravel. Also, only 3.5 years old rubber/rig. Also run fronts at 80 psi when towing, but 70 if I expect to run empty for a very extended time.

yes, my 2015 and my 2 previous duallies wore outer edges of front tires. One one rig I had tire shop swap inside for outside, at about 35k, but decided the labor versus cost of new tires did not justify it. I have air bags that i use only when loaded. I suspect that they help reducd the outer edge wear when loaded. Your previous owners may gave run loaded without airbags...

Welcome to the forum. You bought a great truck. Just drive it.

.
Wait, the factory warranty is 5/100 on a diesel? I just bought a 2015 and thought the warranty was up?

Exactly why I think I see so many 60k trucks for sale. I would have shopped a little differently I would have know this a week ago. The window stickers say 5/60 and made no mention of the 100k diesel engine warranty until the new 2019 stickers AFAIK. Here's a screen grab of the 2015 warranty PDF.

That's the emissions warranty you are showing, not the mechanical.

You are close on mileage. I purchased my 8yr/125,000 plan from Zeigler when I was in your position. Radiator replaced once outside of base warranty. Dealer said the new installed radiator would have cost me $1,800. Ouch. Purchased loaner car option too.
