Tool Box selection help

Looking at getting a toolbox for my '17 CCSB and I want one that sits flush with the bed sides not on top of them. Being a couple inches off the bed so I can slide long peices of metal or wood under it would be a huge bonus. Anyone have a similar set up that can post details and or pictures?

I got nothing.... I've used cross boxes for 25 years.
However I will suggest Weatherguard boxes.
They are the gold standard for truck mounted tool boxes in the construction industry. They make several models that are 'chests' rather than cross-bed boxes.
KNAACK (Parent company of WG..) makes nice chests, which lots of guys put in beds, however they are not weatherstripped.
Good luck.

Also- I have figured out a way to use factory alarm to cover tool box as well.
PM for details.

I don't know of any toolbox (or tool chest) manufacturers who make an in-bed box with room under it like you mentioned. I would think you'd have to mount it on some pieces of square or rectangular tubing to get the space underneath you're looking for.

Weatherguard does make good stuff, as Faceplant mentioned. Lesser known and on the premium side is ProTech and Highway Products. They both have super nice and durable products, and make a lot of work truck and semi truck stuff - but they're the top end of pricing too. I had a ProTech in-bed chest box in an '89 truck I owned an loved it. I have a Weatherguard single lid cross box on my '78 and it is great too. Still debating what to put in/on the new truck.

Happy hunting...

Weatherguard makes a chest style box that’s a little shorter to sit flush with the bed rails of a Ranger/Colorado type truck. You could build a platform to raise it to our bed height and have a few inches to slide stuff under it. It wouldn’t be the full width of the bed though so that may be a deal killer.

A little DIY bracketry fabrication would quickly remove the issue of needing the associated tonneau cover. I'd attach them to both the bed rail and to the Boxlink bolt holes to ensure good triangulation and to spread the load so it's not 100% on bed rails. I looked hard at that box, but decided against it since the lid would foul against the roll-up tonneau cover I installed. I would up buying a 48"x16"x12" side box designed for mounting atop the bed rail longitudinally, and secured it transversely across the front of my bed using turnbuckles to the in-bed tiedown points. I'm thinking I may elevate it some with a homemade stand to allow 4'x8' sheets to fit beneath it.
Here's one similar to what I bought ... https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...0951_200620951

FWIW, I just passed through Lowe's and noticed they are carrying Craftsman toolboxes. I don't know anything about feature or functionality but it was a nice looking toolbox
