My 1997 fE350 serpentine could be changed in a parking lot with minimal tools in less then ten minutes (past experience)
My 2004 F350 6.0 was a whole different story. Thanks to the pictures on this forum I made it happen. My hands will be sore for days! But I learned, WTH.
For a single alt, you can pull up on the belt by the alternator to move the tensioner, then pull the belt off, no tools... Dual alt must be a different animal.
I had my stator, shroud, & fan out and installed the belt but not for removing it. That's when it bit me. The belts I took off had 80k on them. I made a tool that wraps the belt near the top alternator so you can hit the kick stand. When I get a minute I'll post a pic of it in use.
Thank you- that was in my way for sure. Had it in my head that I should have been able to do this without removing parts. I was right, but not smart...
Generally I like to learn the hard way.
