Help! Key won’t engage starter
I have a 1990 f150. The key switch has always been tough to turn and sometimes I will have to take the key out and try a couple times before it starts. Sometimes it will hang up after it starts and not return, almost has a “sticky” feeling to it. The past week it has gotten much worse, and I can not start it at all anymore. So I pulled the lock cylinder and replaced it and it didn’t fix it. So now I got an ignition switch ordered and working on pulling out the old one. My question is is this probably the issue or could it be the neutral safety switch and if so where is it located? I checked around the clutch pedal and could not find it.

I've had this problem on numerous of m y 1989 f series trucks. I have always replaced the rod and the lock ignition module on the base of the steering column to fix this problem. However, I just picked up a 1989 F350 dually where this [problem was present for the old owner. He fixed the issue by installing a push button on the dash with straight 12 volts w going to the s terminal of the solenoid. works great,
