I found it helps to screw a drywall screw into the end of the broken pin. This will allow you to get a pair of vice grips on the screw and work out the pin.
Not to hijack but I replaced all the visor parts on my 77 and all is good. (from Carpenter) except they are not tight enough. I've tried various things to wrap around the hinged pin with no success.

the rattling is going to drive me crazy. What did you do about the metal vs plastic pin issue? Did you use the metal pins with the rubber boot, or did you manage to pull the metal pins out of the visors and replace with the plastic pins?
I got around to replacing my visor pins today. I pulled a plastic one out of passenger side using a drywall screw. It came out in pieces. The one on drivers side was wood. Replaced both with LMC gray plastic.
