Not going to look up the cost of DEF, but for the sake of argument, a 2.5 gallon jug of it at retail is $10, and you need 2.5 gallons every 5k miles. So at $0.002 per gallon, I'd tell them to take their dealership and stick it where the sun don't shine. And I don't know, but I would bet you a jug of DEF they probably get it for pennies on the dollar compared to retail. What a bunch of cheap **** ****. I have no words that aren't too colorful.
Wouldn't 2.5 gallons at $10.00 per jug be $4.00 per gallon?
I believe the service package is totally worth it on a diesel. I'm on year 3 of 8 years, 200,000 km of heavy service plan and extended warranty. So far thinking it is totally worthwhile on the ESP because of all the service work done thus far. Basically just the parts so far for me are fuel filter sets (2), filters oil (7), oil((7 fills), DEF(10 fills, they did extra fills when in for tires and warranty work)(I have only bought 3 jugs so far when towing) , wiper blades(5), Engine air (5), cabin air filters(4), plus all service time, tire rotations, coolant testing, top offs, washer fluids. Also, lots of wear parts covered, plus diffs, transmission, transfer case, coolant changes, brake pads and rotors ect that are covered within the 200,000 Km. I figured one set of brakes and all the above at parts costs only, and I am ahead. I did a quick spreadsheet and at 64,000 Km of the 200,000 km I am covered as I have already paid for the service package at the last oil change 56,000 Km. In Canadian funds, I am at $4000 of $13,900 in costs estimated to the end and that doesn't include any extra brake wear parts, additional coolant testing, treatments, replacements. My last truck I didn't have to do the brakes until 172,000 so I have put in my plan at about 160,000 km. I have estimated costs on all parts what I can get them for from Filters online, Amazon, as opposed to going to the dealer, which is what I would have to do on occasion when need something fast. Their actual charges for a service including parts are significantly more than I estimated I could do for my self.
So far, haven't touched extended warranty, so the jury is still out on that one, I just past my first 60,000 Km bumper to bumper so we will see, time will tell.
Regular warrenty has replaced 2 sets running boards, 2 sets battery brackets, cable ends, 1 set of chrome PVD wheels. About $3000 bucks worth.

Thanks for your input. I was worried about what the brochure says to what people are actually getting. Haven't seen the "fine print" to see if there are exclusions; however, it seems that your truck is being well taken care of. I also know if I do the stuff myself (with no diesel experience), I may over look something that needs attention. It also helps when I am "away" for an extended period of time, my wife just needs to take the truck to the dealer when it is time.

Yea, haven't talked to dealer yet but I have received a couple of quotes online to see what they will do to match.
I do miss doing the work myself and knowing every little detail about my truck. However when I crunch the numbers it’s pretty straight forward positive business case. I do a pretty thorough check after every service and they have not let me down, I check filters, levels, oil especially, check what they add and make sure it’s on the print out.

I agree. Hopefully I can find a good dealership that I can build a relationship with the technicians to help my learning process (in addition to this forum). One of the last decisions I have to make is on the plan itself. I also plan to do the "severe" intervals. I know what I averaged with my prior truck in regards to mileage which should help get a plan that meets my needs. I am looking more at the mileage vs the years. In other words, I would rather hit my mileage before the years run out.
How much are you paying for this maintenance plan? Can you choose how many miles or years? Would be awesome to know cost, versus retail. Nobody has ever tried to sell this to me or told me about it.

Here is the info on the plan itself https://owner.ford.com/ownerlibs/con...mpbro-2018.pdf You can pick mileage from 5,000 (includes "severe duty" items), 7,500 and 10,000. Plans themselves range from 2 years to 8 years and 25K to 150K miles.
As far as price goes, there are a couple of online places to get a quote (like flood ford esp). You can also choose from synthetic blend or full synthetic engine oil. As an example, I think the 8yr/125K (full synthetic) is around $5,900 from that site.

When you are ready to buy, PMme, I have a guy who will sell it to you at cost.
I requested quotes from 2 different sources for ESP, warranty not maintenance, they were exactly the same price. Some might have a 0% payment plan, not sure if they all offer that option. Results might be the same for the maintenance plan as well.
