cam question

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had used the crane compucam for the speed density fuel injection, and I was also told that not much work could be done to the heads, but what about maybe a three angle valve job.

i went with the crane powermax h-260-2 they say that theyre not for computer controled vehicals but it works fine in mine. i was told that as long as the cam has atleast 112 degrees of lobe separation that they will work with computers. there are lots of cams out there that will work with the computer that are alot less $$ than the computer cams. as for the heads i dont know what yours are but i got the E7TE 351 heads and i took a die grinder to the little air bumps in the exhaust ports and smothed them out and opened the ports up a little. and then i got a 3 angle valve grind so far it seems to be working well

i ordered a comp cams kit specifically designed for my speed density sys. i already tried that ordering myself and i got a cam that was supposed to work for speed density, but didnt. it was a 250$ mistake. i called the comp cam tech line and put down the dough on a cam that is made to work. it semed like a good deal b/c i didnt want to do this a fifth time. i am running e5te heads ported, but before i had a 90 linc motor in there, it had stock gt 40 heads on there and it had the the same cam as the truck. i swapped intakes and it ran just fine. the wedge in the chamber made no diff. in driveability. after the bottom went on that i put 69 cc head on there with the three angle, again no difference. since it threw a rod i am converting to the 5.8 and there is nothing worse than getting it all together to discover the cam dont jive. the cam they are sending me has 210/214@50', 478/485lift and 114 on the sep. i questioned them on the 114 lobe sep, but they assured me this flat tappet will work and give me plenty of low /mid torque.

does it matter if its a 302 or 351 with the cam, what kind of power increase does if create and can you tell a difference, also what about the computer programers, i've seen one for the speed density trucks.

302 and 351 have diff firing orders. you can interchange the cams but you have to change the firing order

I have the Crane Powermax 2020 roller cam in my speed density 5.8l EFI. It has 208/215 @ .050 112LSA seat to seat duration is 262/270. crane recommends this cam for the 351, but not the 302, provided you want to stay speed density. The 112 lsa gives a nice sounding idle without any problems. If you can afford it, a custom cam may be better, but this one put a smile on my face.

If you have the 302, I hear that comp cam which was mentioned above works real well, although slightly tamer, and is garanteed not to mess up the computer.

right now my truck has a four-speed with a granny low, 3:55's with detroit lockers, and long tube headers, the truck was flooded so now i'm rebuilding the motor, the block is bored .30 over and I was wondering what would be the best to run with my 302. the block was cracked so i got a non roller block out of a 81 f100

with a manual trans your options are better, but if you r running spees density, i would still say call the tech support for either crane or comp cams and see what they recommend for your app. it is no fun getting the wrong cam trust me. speed density isnt complicated but it dont leave much room for improvement. some one once described it as a over glorified carb, but i will add with a temperment.
