Where's the
trim level? No see um.You were given this same info in post #2.
(sigh) You can lead a mule to water, but you cannot make it drink!
The buyer purchases sight unseen based on the model/trim.
You tell them the model/trim, but the buyer somehow verifies/determines the model/trim via the VIN.
XLT trim was NEVER a part of this discussion, and is irrelevant.
The actual options/feature on the truck are irrelevant.
Explaining the VIN code to me is irrelevant.
Telling me that the XL is a base model in practice is an answer that didn't need to be stated more than once.
Telling me why the XL is a base model is irrelevant.
The problem remains:
To the buyer, the truck is a base OR it is an XL it CANNOT be both -- regardless of practical reality.
How they are determining this from the VIN remains a mystery.
It is probably an error in the VIN system or in their own system.
They are probably overpaying so walking away makes no sense unless there is no other option.
I hope everyone understands now.
Like we told you though, regardless as the if the buyer says it's the base model or if you say it's an XL.It's still only worth base model price either way anyway. You've got to let it go and sell him your base trim truck or sell your base trim truck to someone else.
Let me try to help you one last time:
He says its a base trim truck.- He's correct.
You say it's an XL trim truck - Your correct too.
Either a XL or a base (no matter what you or he wants to call it) holds the same exact value.
You may not care but the fact is,a base trim (or XL since you like those letters so much) is a stripped down truck. It doesn't have a carpet,it doesn't have power windows, locks,it has a am/fm radio - no cassette. You have no cruise control, you have no A/C (unless ordered).
You and he might not care.Doesn't matter if either of you do.Your base trim truck (called XL) doesn't have these things. It makes your trucks value less than XLT.Call it base or call it XL.
One more way;
Let's say you get what you want ok? Let's say,for some reason when he pulls the VIN again, and your truck now comes back saying XL rather than BASE.Let's just say that magically happens for fun ok?
Nothing will change for either you or him.The trucks value is the same either way.You may not care about it being an XLT and he may not care either but it's not and it's not going to be.It's going to be an XL and it's value is that of the base model.Your so stuck on the "XL" letters for some reason.Let the letters go my friend! Let them go!

So lastly,Why are you so upset about him calling your truck the base model? It is.Even if he called it XL instead like you want him to,it's not going to change the price or anything so let him call it base. Why does this bother you so much? Your selling the truck anyway. He's calling it six while you want him to call it a half dozen!
An XL is a base is a custom: none are better than the other. Like trying to describe large cobble or small boulders, they're both rocks about 12" in diameter. Y'all are saying the same thing. Just agree that is a base model or move on to another buyer.
My 85 is just a Bronco, titled as base. Doesn't say anything other than bronco anywhere on it. Yet I've seen customs labeled as custom from the same generation. It's just whatever Ford decided to call it that year and it doesn't matter one bit, because it's not an XLT, Lariat, or EB.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
There is no other buyer who will pay this price!
The buyer's system (wrongly) thinks that for 1994 there is a base model AND a SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT XL model.
NOT the SAME DIFFERENT. Their system is obviously wrong.
And for some stupid reason, they are willing to pay twice as much for an XL instead of a base.
Features, options, value, and the fact that an XL is a base model are all IRRELEVANT!
It really is all about having the VIN tell them it is an XL to get twice the price!
Problem is, the only way they will accept verification it's an XL is through the VIN system....
And since the VIN shows an XL as a base, it's impossible to verify it as an XL even though it is an XL, so I'm stuck.
Get it now???
Walking away is sometimes the right thing to do.Good or you.I hope you find a buyer who you can sell it to,at a honest and fair price.
We have a free marketplace here on FTE you know? You can post your truck here.
You really keep placing great emphasis on this buyer, which I will assume is also from Nigeria and will send you a mint high quality check that you should cash. No dealership would take a 1993 truck on trade based on age alone. The XL is the base truck, it's how it has always been since it replaced the Custom and how it remains. I will point out that you have successfully found a way to ridicule and attempt to showcase everyone in this thread as obtuse and uninformed. Certainly not a very good practice around here.
